Now hitting release number six after carefully curated EPs from Deep Space Orchestra, Mayo Soulomon and Giorgio Luceri – as well as sought after remixes from Kai Alcé and Toby Tobias – Fly By Night Music serves up something slightly different from Riccio, complete with a remix from Craig Smith, for its latest offering.

The man behind the Jungle Way EP is Italian Riccardo Zanaroli aka Riccio, who most recently appeared on the widely lauded Bosconi compilation Bosconi Stallions. A DJ, collector, producer and record seller, Riccio is a staple on the Italian scene and brings plenty of louche disco funk to this release.

First up is ‘Lil Boy’, a Balearic disco jam with raw, live sounding drums and awash with plenty of trilling guitar riffs. It speaks of lazy afternoons on the beach and with retro-soul vocal murmurings knitted into the tapestry so delightfully; it also speaks to the heart.

Title track ‘Jungle Way’ is a little more seedy and insalubrious. It meanders along a ramshackle rhythm section of woody hits, subtle steel drums and silvery tambourines and occasionally lets out some vocal yelps. Slow, deep and dirty from start to finish it’s a real kaleidoscope of organic sound.

The flip sees hallowed disco dude Craig Smith of 6th Borough Project switch the same track up into a more beat driven, but just as loose-limbed, deep house cut with off-kilter percussion and curiously bendy tones. Its slowly ups the energy levels until its an all out romp come the end.

Final track ‘Cold Baby’ is a nicely aged, genuinely vintage sounding bit of swirling disco-funk with glowing chords, slouched drums and more than little dose of cosmic dust and rounds out another tasteful EP in some style.
